12 ways to celebrate the Spring Equinox

How to celebrate the Spring Equinox

Spring is here! The scent of lilac dances in the wind, dandelions peak their heads through blades of grass and the butterflies start their search for sweet nectar. Nature is waking up at last! Animals make their way out of hibernation, plants emerge from the soil and the sun starts shining brighter each day. We are all a part of nature, not separate. When nature awakens, so do we. The Spring Equinox is the best time to sow the seeds of your desires. During this phase the earth carries strong energies of growth, transformation, new beginnings and rebirth. By aligning yourself and your life to the cycles of nature, you are able to access these energies for manifesting, happiness and fulfillment. Join me as I celebrate my favorite time of the year. Together we will cultivate growth through intentional activities, journaling, rituals and much more. Grab your pen and a shovel, it’s time for us to sow the seeds of our desires!

What is the Spring Equinox and why should I celebrate it?

The Spring Equinox marks the transition into Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Astrologically the hours of day and night are equal, symbolizing harmony and balance. From this moment on, the sun’s rays will grow stronger each day until the Summer Solstice. For many, including myself, the Spring Equinox is considered the official start of a new year, a time to set goals and begin planning your future. Spring marks the beginning of Nature’s everturing cycle. Hope, Happiness and Renewal linger in the air. By celebrating the Spring Equinox you are aligning yourself to all of the energies it withholds. I believe the more aligned an individual is to nature, the more fulfilled they will be. These Individuals have a greater understanding of the role they play in the world; they don’t feel lost and they know they are exactly where they are destined to be. #1 Foraging Nature Walk

The greatest way to soak in the season is by immersing yourself in it. Carve out some time where you can explore nature without the background noise of daily life and responsibilities. Bring a basket and some shears for collecting wild edibles and whatever else calls out to you. With the arrival of Spring comes the gift of Nature’s food and medicine. Plants such as Violets, Dandelion, Chickweed and Garlic Mustard can be found nearly everywhere in my local environment. Do your research beforehand and be confident you are safely and ethically harvesting these herbs. As you walk, I encourage you to develop a childlike curiosity towards nature. Get on your knees exploring the diversity beneath your feet. Climb on a tree to get a better view of the land around you. Pick flowers to bring home and display in a special vase. Create a spring nature mandala on the forest floor. Let your intuition and inner child guide this seasonal nature walk.

#2 Wild edibles in the kitchen

One of my favorite ways to honor this seasonal transition is by using wild edibles in cakes, breads, dishes and beverages. Cooking with herbs you’ve freshly foraged is such a powerful way to connect to the rhythms of nature. From the walk, to sitting down and enjoying your seasonal treat, it is all a very meditative and ritualistic experience. Some of my favorite spring recipes include Dandelion and Garlic Mustard Pesto, Wild Violet Lemonade, Lilac Shortbread Cookies and Dandelion Violet Cake. If you’re not skilled in the kitchen, you can also enjoy these wild edibles by simply using Violets as a garnish on a salad or topping a store bought cupcake with a dandelion flower. Find what resonates with you and what is available in your local environment.

#3 Sow Seeds

If you plan to grow your own herbs, flowers, fruits or vegetables this summer, now is a great time to get your seeds sown. You can start seeds indoors or outdoors. Sowing seeds indoors requires a level of creativity and ingenuity, especially if you’re working with minimal space and a small budget. A great way to start seeds outdoors is by using the Winter Sowing Method. Although Spring has arrived, the temps are still frigid, the ground is still solid and there is still a chance for snow. This method allows you to get an abundance of seedlings with little to no cost, equipment or skill! Before planting any of my seeds I like to say a prayer or a blessing over them. This makes it feel more magical and meaningful. If you’re interested in more detailed sowing methods check out my journal entries i’ve listed down below.

  • Winter sowing using milk jugs
  • Sowing seeds using recycled water bottles
  • Sowing seeds in egg cartons

#4 Journaling

As I mentioned earlier, The Spring Equinox is celebrated by many as the official start to the new year. If you’ve already given up on those New Year’s Resolutions, it might not be an issue of discipline, but rather an issue of timing. Setting grandiose goals in the middle of Winter, when we are meant to be resting and conserving energy, is not conducive or in alignment with our inner rhythms. Take this time to reflect, reset and create your ideal vision of the future. Below are some journal prompts designed to guide you towards alignment with your higher self.

#5 Spring Cleaning

Our home is an extension of our energy field. When our home is in disarray, unorganized and cluttered, it has a very negative impact on our mood. The state of our home is in direct relation to our state of mind. Keeping a clean, orderly and easy to manage home allows us the freedom to explore hobbies, relationships and other personal endeavors. A clean home that feels energetically light and fresh allows inspiration, joy and creativity to flow through you. Clutter creates stagnant energy that feels heavy and weighs you down. When you’re not in good relation with your home, feelings such as unhappiness, anger, irritability and melancholy might present themselves. Tap into the energy of renewal that Spring brings us and create harmony in your home. Take inventory, what area in your home causes you the most stress? Start there. Declutter every room, every closet and every drawer. This is a large project to tackle but by tapping into Springs energies you will find your motivation and flow. Creating this clean slate environment in your home sets you up for success in achieving your goals you set in the previous journaling practice. Break these tasks into a few days or weeks if you need to, but be sure to make it happen. This is the #1 thing I recommend to individuals that are seeking change and growth. If you are calling in new opportunities, new relationships and new beginnings. You need to energetically make room for them. This happens by resetting and cleansing our home.
